Jotka fjellstue is one of the last 3 State mountain lodges in Norway. Fjellstuene was established in 1840 mainly because the state’s people such as priests, sheriffs, doctors, officers etc. should have a place to stay in his errands across the fjord. The day intervals between the living rooms were then set to approx. 3 miles due to the time it took to travel on foot or by horse and cart. Reindeer were also used for transport. Jotka mountain lodge was not burned during the war and still has old buildings standing. The oldest houses are from 1878. The person who manages the mountain lodge is called the caretaker and is a position that is passed down from family to family.<\/p>\n

Jotka Fjellstue is actively used by cyclists and is a perfect destination for a long day trip from Alta. At the mountain lodge, food can be ordered in advance, so that you can fill up on nutrition before the trip back to Alta. If you want to spend several days, you can book accommodation, as well as a sauna and steam room.<\/p>\n

In winter, the mountain lodge is used as a pit stop for scooter riders, and is a popular stop for a coffee and waffle.<\/p>\n
